What matters most? What's the most important thing? Let's talk about that for the next day or two.
I am Mike Henry Sr. with Follower of One. Thanks for joining me on the Follower of One Podcast. I'm excited that you join us. If you get a chance, share this with someone, too. These podcasts are designed to help us take our faith with us to work. And not leave it in the car, but take it into the office with you, or into the workplace with you.
Today and for the next couple of days, I want to talk about three verses that mean a lot to me. We'll read them all today, but we'll only talk about the first one. This is 2 Corinthians 4:16-18.
"Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying yet, our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us and eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal."
And that's from the New American Standard Bible. Verse 16 says, "therefore we do not lose heart." Have you ever lost heart, get discouraged or despaired? Paul's reminding us that even though in the struggles that he's gone through as an apostle of Jesus Christ, he doesn't lose heart.
"Though, our outer man is decaying." This is something I've learned about up close and personal. I've never been much of an exerciser. And now that I get old, it gets harder. The longer you don't exercise, the harder it gets. The outer man is decaying. My physical body is seeing its last days coming up on it pretty quickly.
"Our outer man is decaying, but our inner man is being renewed day by day." Every day I get to go to work. Right now, I get to work for Follower of One, which is a lot of fun. But even when I had miserable jobs, the energy to do my job came from the fact that I knew that I was serving the people that I work with, or that I was serving the Lord in doing that.
As believers in the workplace, I believe we get new energy to do our jobs every day if we remember that this is what God has for us today. It must work out for good Romans 8:28 says, "It must work out for good." I can trust God because my circumstances are outside of my control today. And yet I can go into my circumstances with this renewed inner man, this new energy that comes from remembering that I'm a messenger and a servant of Jesus Christ.
My job is to find a way to follow Him. And often that shows up as trying to calculate and deliver the most godly response to every circumstance.
Today in your workplace. I want to challenge you. There's a most godly response. When we can find the most godly response to everything that happens to us, we're on a mission with Jesus. We're right there beside Him doing everything He has for us to do.
Watch for Him today. Watch for Him in your circumstances; in the interactions that you have with people. Look for ways to glorify Him by serving others and appreciating them. Remember every person you interact with today is loved by God.
And we can love them better. We can appreciate them more, and we can find ways to serve them. And Jesus may put you to work in other ways. He may give you an opportunity to speak to them. We may give you an opportunity to pray for them. You may get all kinds of opportunities today. Your inner man can be renewed day by day because you follow Jesus Christ. Let's take that into our workplace today.
