Would you say you live
in the fast lane?
"And God is able to
bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having
all that you need, you will abound in every good work." 2
Corinthians 9:8 NIV
Do you remember the
Eagles song, Life In The Fast Lane? There was a line in that song,
"Everything, All the time." The song wasn't a good Christian hymn.
It was a rock and roll anthem for a very empty life. But that
phrase always stuck with me.
Paul tells us God is
able to make all of his grace abound to us. Abound means we have
something abundantly. We will have abundant grace. Paul is
responding to the Corinthians that as they give, they will receive.
He's talking to them about giving to the church in Jerusalem. God
provides abundant grace so that we will have what we need to be a
blessing to others.
The Christian Standard
Bible says, "so that in every way, always having everything you
need, you may excel in every good work."
God will give you
everything you need to excel in every good work.
If we need something
today, we can tell ourselves a couple of different stories. We can
whine and complain to God or about him. Or we an ask him if what we
want is really what he wants. If we don't have something, maybe
it's because God doesn't want it.
What will it take to
get us to focus on what we already have and what we can do? Could
it be that God has equipped us for something, but we don't see it
because we're looking for something else? Maybe we're chasing the
wrong thing. Or maybe we're not making the resources available to
him.
Ask God to show you
what you "can" do and then do it. Let's be people who do what we
can rather than focusing on what we can't do.
We want to be that
kind of community. Would you like to be around people who
concentrate on what we can do? Then check out
