Do you consider yourself a righteous?

Hi, I'm Mike Henry Sr. with Follower of One. Thanks for joining me again today on the Follower of One Podcast.

Today, I want to talk about first Corinthians chapter six, verse 11, but I'm actually going to start in verse nine for my reading today.

"Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God. Do not be deceived neither fornicators, nor idolators, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you, but you were washed, you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ and in the spirit of our God."

So that's 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 from the New American Standard Bible.

I was actually tempted to shy away from this verse a little bit because of this list that Paul gives us in verses 9 and 10. But the keyword for us to examine here is he says, do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?

And then in verse 11 it says, "such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified." This point, being that the difference between an unrighteous person and a righteous person happens to be what we do. Do we follow Jesus? And part of the reason why we call our organization Follower of One is because there is this one person that I want to follow and that's Jesus Christ.

I'm afraid that I don't do it perfectly or every day. I would expect that every day I fall short in some measure, I don't follow Jesus the way that I should, but it's my intention too. And it's my goal too.  Our salvation comes from following Jesus. He gives us the Holy Spirit when we trust him and follow him. And there are verses about all that, that I'm not even prepared to dig up today.

My point was to remember that such was I. I was one of those people, but I was washed, sanctified and justified in the name of Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God when I trusted Christ for my salvation and chose to bend my life to follow him.

Today. I want to live that way. I don't want to be a fornicator or an idolator anymore.

I don't want to be identified by the behaviors that I take that are selfish. No, I want to be identified by the behavior of following Jesus Christ and doing what he says. I still stumble, like I said earlier, and you will too, but today I want to remind us, we have an opportunity to choose every single moment to follow Jesus or not.

It's our choice that we make and it gets easier as we do it. So today, thank you for being one of those people that chooses to follow Jesus. As you're listening to this podcast, if Jesus gives you an idea of a way to be a blessing to someone.  or to do anything so that someone else might move one notch closer to Jesus, please take a moment and do it. Make some time and put it into your schedule to be someone who can say, "such was I. I am not one of those anymore. I'm trying to be this person who follows Jesus." That's our story, and we're sticking to it. And today we want to do that with 1 Corinthians 6:11.

Tomorrow. We'll talk about verse 12 as well, because I think it piggybacks right on this. But today let's remember, "Jesus, show us how you want us to act, show us how we can make you visible to others around us."

Thanks for being a marketplace minister. Thanks for considering this podcast. Please take a moment and share it with your friends and join us at https://community.followerofone.org.

Thanks very much.
